There is a new dating term that Millenials are doing called cushioning!!! Cushioning is when (along with your main piece) you also have several 'cushions', aka other people you'll chat and flirt with to cushion the potential blow, just in case you and your main break up!!! Millenials do this as a sort of “insurance policy.”
Used in a sentence,
" Yeah, I don't think it's going that well with Dave. Luckily I've been cushioning him with Pablo and Gary."
“When I really like a guy, I find a ‘B team’ guy to keep on the side to channel my crazy. I go on dates with him before I go out with ‘A team,’ literally as a practice round.”
Previous trends include “ghosting,” where people gradually stop responding to messages and then disappear, and “breadcrumbing,” where singles continue to leave traces of hope for dating prospects that they’re not actually that interested in.
