Half Of Americans To Take A 'Bleisure' Trip This Year - Things That Matter

A CHP officer was shot yesterday at around 6:15pm on the 8 east near the 805. The officer was investigating a traffic collision when he became involved in a struggle with a pedestrian, who shot him. The officer was wounded in his right thigh and is in serious but stable condition. There’s video of the whole incident on line. A person driving by was able to subdue the shooting suspect until other cops got there and a male nurse (in scrubs and all) was able to help the officer until the ambulance got there.  The shooter was identified as a 25 year old man. The suspect is currently in custody

A resort in A North County was just named one of the best new hotels in the world by Travel and Leisure magazine. The Alila Marea Beach Resort Encinitas was named one of the best for taking “surfing just as seriously as it takes sustainability.” It has 130 rooms. A spa with five treatment rooms and a sauna and a number of other guest amenities such as a pool, fitness area and e-bikes available for guests. The magazine says it’s perfect for a laid-back getaway, with waves crashing on the beach, bicycles available to ride into town for tacos, and a solar-heated pool. It’s expensive though. Rates start at $639 a night with some — such as rooms that average more than $1,000 a night.

San Diego is now the 5th most expensive rental city in the US. The median rental price in April was $2,390 for a one-bedroom , meaning it was more expensive to rent in San Diego than in Los Angeles, Washington D.C. and Oakland. For a two-bedroom unit, the median price was $3,050, up more than 27% from last year.  A one-bedroom rate in Chula Vista rose nearly 40% since last year while prices for the same in Oceanside were up almost 30%.

So why is rent rising so quickly? Well San Diego is a transplant city and during the pandemic everyone wanted to live here and work remote, or even permanently in some cases. The other reason is due to the high cost of real estate.

Home prices in the area also have risen nearly 50% in the past two years due to a housing shortage and the cost of labor and materials.

Over half of Americans plan on taking a ‘BLEISURE’ work trip post-pandemic! So what is a bleisure work trip??? It’s when you combine business with leisure. 65 percent of people say they’ve taken a “bleisure” trie before, where they either arrived at their destination early for leisure or stayed after they were done working. And 57 percent of people admitted to specifically looking to take work trips in places they know their loved ones would enjoy traveling to.

Leisure on a work trip is so important that 44 percent of “bleisure” travelers say they’ve actually turned down the opportunity to take a work trip because they wouldn’t have had time for leisure activities while there.  86% say they will take a bleisure trip post-pandemic.

Dr. Fauci says that the US is “out of the full-blown explosive pandemic phase.” However, he says that does not mean that the pandemic is over. He says, in our country we’re transitioning into more of a controlled endemicity.
