Help support the family of Joseph Ghio with Make Happiness Happens

On Saturday, December 4, 2021, Joseph F. Ghio, our beloved cousin, brother and friend tragically passed. Joe was in a fatal car crash and was taken way too early from his wonderful children Jemma and Joe Jr. They were the light of his life and the love between them was enormous. As our family tries to process our grief and figure out how to navigate life without seeing Joe’s beaming smile at each family gathering, our thoughts turn to the future of Jemma and Joe Jr.

Joe loved life and was a legend in his Point Loma/Ocean Beach, San Diego community. Whether lifeguarding, teaching youngsters to surf, giving jet ski tours or waiting tables to make ends meet, Joe was a kind and helpful presence that so many in the community loved.

Our memories of Joe will forever serve as a reminder to live each day fully present in our family's love as tomorrow is not promised. As we process this catastrophic loss in our own way, nothing compares to the journey that Jemma and Joe Jr. have ahead of them. If you live in Point Loma/Ocean Beach, you have likely been touched in some way by Joe’s amazing kindness and generosity. Because of this, many people have asked what they can do to help support Jemma and Joe Jr. as they navigate this challenging time.

Today, we invite you to honor the values Joe shared with the world of family, faith, and community. Joe was deeply committed to his children's education. Jemma is enrolled at The Rock Academy and Joe Jr. just started at Saint Charles Borromeo Academy. We ask you in lieu of flowers to consider showing support for Jemma and Joe Jr. by donating to this Venmo account. The funds raised will be used for Jemma and Joe Jr’s future education.

Every dollar raised will be used for the children’s exclusive benefit. Every donation is greatly appreciated. No amount is too small. We welcome anything you feel inclined to give.

We would love to see pictures and stories posted about how Joe or his family touched your life, or just leave a message of support to remind them that we are here for them now and forever. Please leave a comment below. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

With Love,

Joe’s Cousins and Brother
