The Weeknd is putting in $7 million dollars of his own money into his Super Bowl performance. If you didn’t know, Super Bowl halftime performers are not paid. They do it for the publicity. Only their production costs are covered. However, The Weekend wanted to do more so now he’s putting in his own money. The weeknd said, “We've been really focusing on dialing in and making performances a cinematic experience. We want to do that with the Super Bowl.”
Essentially, The Weeknd will pay $7 million for a 14-minutes Super Bowl commercial to promote a greatest hit album -- and possible give a middle finger to the Grammys.
