San Diego County reported 833 new Covid 19 cases yesterday as coronavirus cases surge statewide. The City had an emergency press conference yesterday where County Supervisor Nathan Fletcher warned that the toughest days are ahead. He said, “This is a reminder that COVID is real, is spreading and must be taken seriously. At this point, we are pleading with the public to take action to slow the spread: Wear a mask, physically distance, and limit contact with those outside of your household.”

Also yesterday, Governor Gavin Newsom imposed more restrictive guidelines putting almost all of California in the most restrictive purple tier due to the “fastest increase California has seen” since the pandemic began. 94.1% of the state is in the purple tier meaning indoor dining, gyms and movie theaters, and other businesses, must remain closed inside starting today.  He also apologized for breaking his own rules when he went to a 50th birthday party with 12 friends at 3-star Michelin restaurant where a tasting menu costs up to $850.

In some lighter news, Women Named Karen Say Their Name Has Ruined Their Love Lives. Women named Karen who are on online dating apps are getting  31% fewer matches than last year and 33% fewer responses to messages they send. Even women who use a different spelling like C-A-R-E-N or K-A-R-I-N have seen a 22% drop in matches.

If you aren't going to be near your family on Thanksgiving, Zoom has a plan for you. Normally, you can use Zoom to chat via video for up to 40 minutes for free. If you want to stay on longer, you have to pay extra. But, not this year on Thanksgiving. Zoom just announced it's lifting its 40-minute limit so you can keep talking for as long as you want next Thursday.
