- President Trump and the first lady Melania Trump tested positive for Covid-19. Trump Tweeted this last night, “Tonight, @FLOTUS and I tested positive for COVID-19. We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately. We will get through this TOGETHER!” This announcement came hours after the White House announced that senior aide Hope Hicks had come down with the virus after traveling with the president several times this week. Trump is 74 years old, putting him at higher risk of serious complications however the president’s physician said that the president and first lady “are both well at this time” and said, “Rest assured I expect the President to continue carrying out his duties without disruption while recovering.”
- Meanwhile here in San Diego, public health officials reported 305 new cases of COVID-19 and nine additional deaths. All had underlying medical conditions. Of the 11,709 tests reported Thursday, 3% returned positive, bringing the 14-day rolling average percentage of positive cases to 3.1%. The state-set target is less than 8%.
- The Padres won game two last night during the Wildcard Playoffs. They beat the Cardinals 11-9. The series is now 1-1 which means they play game 3 tonight. Game time 4:08pm and winner advances to play the Dodgers. The Padres are the first team in postseason history with five home runs from the sixth inning onward in a game. However they are short on pitchers so they haven’t announced a starting pitcher for tonight’s game.
- Several sharks were spotted off of Torrey Pines State Beach!! At least three large sharks were spotted off the coast of Torrey Pines State Beach swimming close to surfers yesterday. The sharks were seen specifically gliding around the Flat Rock area, located north of Black's Beach and south of Torrey Pines State Beach. Officials say the largest of the sharks, which may have been great white sharks, was about 10 feet in length. "The sharks did not interact with any beachgoers during this time. The shark actions are considered non-aggressive and consistent with normal white shark behavior.” If you’re in the area, shark sighting signs will be up for 24 hours.
