These Tiny Sea Creatures Are Biting People In The Waters of Mission Bay

Tiny, underwater sea creatures are biting people taking a dip in Mission Bay.

San Diegan Tara Sauvage told CBS 8 said she was walking along De Anza Cove when she decided to put her feet in the water to cool off, and in a matter of seconds something bit her ankles and feet. She said she had blood all over her foot, like small piranhas bit her.

Scripps Institution of Oceanography Proffesor Ryan Hechinger said it was excirolana chiltoni, crustaceans that are found in San Diego year round. He says they aren’t harmful, but they like to eat fresh meat like a dying animal or battered animal, as part of a healthy ecosytem, and they can bite people.

A photo below shows the excirolana chiltoni.
