San Diego Taxpayers Will Have To Pay $900,000 For A “Trip & Fall” Lawsuit

A San Diego woman will be paid nearly $900,000 in taxpayer money stemming from a trip-and-fall lawsuit, after city attorneys did not show up to trial or file any court documents related to the case.

On July 29th, Superior Court Judge Ronald Frazier ruled in favor of 74-year-old Diane Lloyd, who sued the city after she stepped off a curb in front of the Clairemont Mesa Post Office, and into a big pothole back in 2020.

After the fall, Lloyd fractured both of her ankles and had to undergo emergency surgery to have plates and screws placed in her legs.

The ruling came after city attorneys did not show up to court on July 7th.

The city said Lloyd's lawyers did not file with them correctly, and did not receive the notice of the case.
