An unnamed woman from Bronx, New York was forced to give birth at Montefiore Medical Center while in handcuffs back in February of 2018. She was 27 years old at the time.

She was originally arrested for violating an order of protection which was related to a child custody dispute.

Doctors requested with the officers to have her cuffs and shackles removed so that she could give birth to her baby. Officers eventually removed her ankle shackles but left the handcuffs on, claiming it was an NYPD policy why they had to keep her restrained. After the birth, officers proceeded to re-shackle the woman's ankles. She even had to breastfeed her new baby using one arm...while the other was cuffed to the bed.

As it turned out that shackling a pregnant woman while in any police custody was banned by the State of New York back in 2009. The unnamed woman was awarded a $610,000 settlement by the State of New York.
