San Diego Woman Falls on Street Doing 'La Chona Challenge'

San Diego Woman Falls While Doing La Chona Challenge

Move over KIKI, La Chona is taking over!

The 'La Chona Challenge' is the latest dance/video craze taking over the internet, and yes, it too involves dancing outside of a moving car to "La Chona," a 1997 song by Los Tucanes de Tijuana. It seems the "Kiki challenge" has some serious competition.

Upon hearing the song, "La Chona", your spirit and mood becomes instantly lifted when that accordion hits you, thanks to Tucanes De Tijuana. The song has birthed a bunch of dances in Mexico.

What is a Chona?

It's a reference for a woman who is married but loves to party! She usually goes to parties and can be seen drinking and dancing on the dancefloor. She has no problems grabbing a random dance partner and having a good time!

English Translation:

I’ll tell you the story of a famous city girl.

Everybody knows her and La Chona is her name.

Everybody knows her and La Chona is her name.

Her husband is crying, he doesn’t know what to do.

Daily, she is dancing and spending on her booze.

Daily, she is dancing and spending on her booze.

The band has started, they’re playing the first song.

La Chona is ready, ready looking for a boy.

La Chona is ready, ready looking for a boy.

People are watching and they’re all singing aloud.

Bravo, bravo. Chona, about dancing, you’re the one.

Bravo, bravo. Chona, about dancing, you’re the one.

And La Chona is moving, and the people are yelling.

No one is like La Chona, dancing la quebradita.

And La Chona is dancing, whatever they’re playing.

Music of any kind, never loses her jumping.

#LaChonaChallenge is dangerous

Ale Carranza of Oceanside, CA, is seen participating in the dangerous act of dancing while the car is still running, usually without a driver at the wheel. (the song was replaced probably due to copyright reasons)

The difference between the #KiKiChallenge and #LaChonaChallenge

The craze even got the attention of band member Michael Salgado who recently posted a video of his son Andres Salgado, and their band dancing outside of their moving bus in a parking lot.
