School Principal Accused of Having Sex with 16-year-old Student

Ohio school superintendent Laura Amero

Ohio school superintendent Laura Amero, 35, had sex with a 16-year-old student, tried to with a 17-year-old, and was indicted on sexual battery and intimidation of a witness which she denies.

The school superintendent is being accused of having a sexual relationship 2 students between September 2015 and May 2017 with Windham Junior-Senior High School. She has been suspended without pay by the school board in a unanimous vote that that took only 14-minutes while the investigation is ongoing. The students are now 18 and 19 years old.

According to The Record-Courier, the Board of Education President Darryl McGuire believes that the school was initially notified by local law enforcement. There was nothing in Amero's records or past that would disenfranchise her from getting hired as principal. Before that, she was an English teacher at Western Reserve High School in Mahoning County. She's been married twice prior to the incident.

Amero is currently released on a $350K bond and is set for a pretrial hearing on May 31 in Portage County Common Pleas Court.
