San Diego MMA Fighter Stops Suspected Burglar in City Heights

A San Diego MMA (mixed-martial arts) fighter stopped a suspect caught allegedly breaking into his father's home in City Heights.

Sergio Hernandez jr., is owner of Pop's Tattoos who also happens to be a black belt Jiu-Jitsu practitioner and professional MMA fighter

Monday morning, Hernandez says he saw a man standing near a window at his dad's house.  He chased the man down for about a block while wearing flip-flops, tossed the man to the ground using a Judo throw, and held the man using a triangle choke to subdue him until the police arrived.

As a professional MMA fighter, he knew he was only one step away from choking the burglar out and causing him to be unconscious or breaking his arm but restrained from doing so after the burglar pleaded with Hernandez to not call the authorities because he is the father of a 2-year-old.

Sergio's father, Sergio Hernandez Sr., is a retired school counselor and boxing trainer.  He has offered to take the burglar under his wing to train him.
