San Diego Charities Who Need Help During Corornavirus Restrictions

Non-profit organizations that rely on volunteers, fundraising events, and donations are having a difficult time providing services as a result of the coronavirus pandemic - here's how you can help.

Urban Corps of San Diego County

At this time we are reducing our workforce due to COVID-19 and the suspension of a key contract. As a result, many of our Corps members could benefit from receiving donations of food and other household goods to help support their families.

San Diego Blood Bank

They collect half of their blood reserves from bloodmobile events, which are often organized by schools, churches and businesses who are now closed. We are in a medical crisis, "The U.S. is on the verge of a serious blood shortage that will lead to blood rationing and triage.

  • We need healthy people to come out to donate immediately,” said David Wellis, CEO, San Diego Blood Bank. “Supplies are dropping to critical levels. We are confident the San Diego community will rally around this urgent need.” MORE DETAILS HERE

San Diego Food Bank

Since the City of San Diego declared a State of Emergency, the Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank has been flooded with called from people who: a) existing recipients who need to know if the Food Bank is still providing food, AND b) San Diego residents who now don't have access to food, and are hoping for assistance. MORE DETAILS HERE

  • The Food Bank is in desperate need of volunteers and donations. Please contribute whatever you can afford to iHeartMedia's virtual food drive HERE.

Habitat For Humanity

As a non-profit, Habitat for Humanity relies on the generous support of others. As businesses throughout our community are impacted by closures, so are many Habitat homeowners. These families will certainly be concerned about continuing to make their mortgage payments. We are committed to working with each family during this uncertain time, but we need your financial support to sustain us in that.

Just In Time for Foster Youth

Just In Time provides a caring community to help transition-age foster youth (18-26 years), achieve self-sufficiency and well-being in San Diego. Former foster youth face the greatest financial risk, as most are already struggling to make ends meet, and are now on the brink of unemployment and homelessness as a result of the coronavirus crisis.

  • Please help Just In Time for Foster Youth meet the ever-growing housing and pantry needs of at-risk youth by making a tax deductible donation HERE.

Operation Hope - North County

Operation Hope—North County serves families who are experiencing homelessness. Their 45-bed program provides safe shelter and resources as they work toward self-sufficiency.  THE COVID-19 Pandemic has created a stress on their cash flow, but they are committed to providing optimum safety and complete services to keep our families healthy as long as their doors are open!

  • Please help make a difference in the lives of those in our community who have no place to call home and go to GO OperationHopeShelter.org/donate to learn more and donate what ever you can afford. On behalf of the kids and their parents and all of us at Operation HOPE-North County, THANK YOU for your support!

Rady Children's Hospital

Thanks so the generosity of San Diego, the expert medical staff at Rady Children's Hospital are ready to care for children around the clock, no matter the reason. That's why, now more than ever they are asking for your help. This is traditionally the time of year that Rady Children’s Hospital Foundation hosts exclusive fundraising events that support our critical operations throughout the year. With nearly everything but essential health care operations on hold, I am asking you to please consider a gift in support of the talented caregivers and our support teams who are prepared to handle any situation; and to support advanced research into novel pathogens as well as those that have perplexed researchers for decades.

Feeding San Diego

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Feeding San Diego launched additional emergency food distributions across San Diego County and expanded hunger-relief services to help meet the rapidly increasing need for food assistance. With an outpouring of support from the community, Feeding San Diego quickly implemented new methods of food distribution, including drive-through and drop-and-go models, to protect the health and safety and people facing hunger.

American Red Cross

The American Red Cross is currently facing a severe blood shortage during the coronavirus outbreak. Healthy blood and platelet donors are asked to make an appointment to give now. Donating blood is safe and can help save lives. Cancer patients, accident victims and so many others continue to need lifesaving blood. You can make a difference.

  • Please schedule your appointment now by visiting RedCrossBlood.org or calling 1-800-RED CROSS.

Ronald McDonald House

The Ronald McDonald House strives to support families as they care for their hospitalized child. Over the past few weeks: they have redoubled efforts to provide a safe haven for families; are working closely with hospital partners; and continue to support families with the most critically ill children. San Diego's support means more now than ever and they are asking for help in a variety of ways so that they can sustain their "home away from home" for families during this unprecedented time.

Heal Veterans

Our Veterans risked it all to protect our freedoms. And now they need our help as we all fight the CoronaVirus. At an unprecedented time in history our most vulnerable veterans are isolated at hospitals, and during their greatest time of need their family, hospital volunteers, and staff can have little or no contact with them.

Being alone can be terrifying! But we all can help! Help Heal Veterans, with the support of citizens like you, creates, manufactures and distributes therapeutic art and craft projects for our veterans and military – at no charge to them.

  • We would like to invite you to join us in supporting an isolated or sick veteran and help them through this, visit HealVets.Org.
