Instagram Stories Used to Tell Story of 13-Year-Old Holocaust Victim

Instagram account features 13-year-old Holocaust victim’s tragic story.

Instagram is one of the world's most popular social media platforms and now it's being used to tell a story that's 75 years old.

The Instagram account, @Eva.stories, filmed and featured an entire movie using a phone, and then shared the clips through a series of Instagram stories. The story was written and directed by Mati Kochavi with his daughter, Maya and is based on the real-life of a 13-year-old Jewish Hungarian girl, Eva Heyman, who died at Auschwitz in 1944. The movie was filmed in a first-person perspective as if the main character were to document their life using a smartphone. It's the Holocaust re-imaged for a social media age.

The portrayal of life in the ghetto is really brought to life from a first-person perspective as if someone in 1944 had Instagram during these events. The result is extremely intense and intimate. It felt so real. This is how a teenager today would experience the Holocaust.
