High School Senior Sets New 100-Meter Dash Record

High School Star, Matthew Boling, 18, from Strake Jesuit College Prep in Houston, Texas runs 100-meter dash with an Olympic-level mark of 9.98 seconds - just 0.4 seconds off Usain Bolt's best time

Matthew Boling AKA 'White Lightning' (a name given to him by his peers) is an 18-year-old senior at Strake Jesuit College Prep in Houston who ran the 100-meter dash in just 9.98 seconds at a recent regional meet in Texas

Since he had a 4.2 mph tailwind at his back, it won't count as the official record. He did set the fastest record (9.98 seconds) for ANY American under 20 years of age. The previous 100-meter high school dash record holder was Trentavis Friday, who ran it in 10 seconds flat back in 2014 in North Carolina.

Usain Bolt currently holds the world record in both the 100- and 200-meter dash, with times of 9.58 seconds (with 0.9 mph headwind) and 19.19 seconds, respectively.

Boling will attend the University of Georgia and hopes to make it on the U.S. Olympic team in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
