Dad Commits Suicide by Explosion on Daughter's Wedding Day

A 59-year-old father of three, name publicly withheld, blew up his home at 318 Garland Street on his daughter Lauren's wedding day.

Neighbors saw him just outside of his home in Edgewood, Pennsylvania, a few minutes before the blast happened around 2:30 PM on Saturday, September 14th, 2019. Most of the family was at the wedding taking place at Catholic Community of the East End of Pittsburgh, while the explosion happened.

After the explosion, authorities found a body that is most likely the homeowner.

Edgewood Police Chief Robert Payne ruled the homeowner's death as suicide since they've been called to the home before for mental-health-related domestic issues. The man had cut the home's gas line in the basement and lit it up.
