Adopt Jupiter

Helen Woodward Animal Center has watched Jupiter grow up. The four-month-old Shepherd blend arrived at the Center as a one-week-old puppy, alongside her mother, Galaxy, and eight siblings. They were part of the Center’s annual Baby Shower initiative, which rescues neonatal litters during the spring season. In Central California, where Jupiter was born, that season stretches as early as mid-January thanks to the region’s mild climate.

Every spring, countless puppies and kittens are born across the country. What many people don’t realize is that caring for newborn animals requires far more resources than caring for adults. Shelters must rely on wide foster networks to provide calm, low-stress environments where babies can thrive. High-stress shelter settings can lead to health problems, especially for orphans. Regular medical checkups are also essential, and without an in-house veterinary clinic like the one at Helen Woodward Animal Center, many organizations struggle to provide that level of care. On top of this, newborns need at least eight weeks before they are ready for adoption—a challenge for shelters already at capacity.

Because of these demands, many shelters across the country make heartbreaking decisions to euthanize orphan puppies and kittens. The strain on limited infrastructure can be overwhelming, and resources must be stretched to care for the animals already in their care.

Helen Woodward Animal Center offers a different path. With the ability to take in newborns—and often their mothers—the Center provides the specialized care these fragile animals need. Partner organizations send neonatal families to the Center, ensuring that no one has to face impossible choices.

Jupiter and her siblings are a shining example of this mission. Thanks to the Center, they were given the chance to grow, play, and prepare for adoption. Today, Jupiter is the last of her family still waiting for a forever home. It is a surprising fact, considering her irresistible charm.

Jupiter is playful, energetic, and deeply affectionate. She adores toys, delights in fetch, and excels at tug-of-war. On leash, she is confident and joyful, making her a wonderful companion in the field. Loyal and loving, Jupiter bonds easily with people and would bring endless joy to any family lucky enough to welcome her home!
