Adopt Alexander at Helen Woodward Animal Center

Meet Alexander!

This ridiculously cute three-year-old pug blend arrived from a rescue partner in the Central Valley! While not much is known about his past, it was reported that he was found alongside two other dogs in rural Central California🐾

Alexander is visually impaired. His left eye is affected by pigmentary keratitis—a condition caused by chronic corneal irritation that led his body to form pigment over the inflamed area.

Fortunately, the irritation has been taken care of, however the pigment remains like a colorful scar, and he can no longer see out of that eye. The veterinary team at Helen Woodward later discovered that his right eye also has significant vision loss, but they think he experiences severe blurriness rather than darkness!

Despite these challenges, Alexander doesn’t let his disability slow him down! He is one of the sweetest dogs ever welcomed at Helen Woodward!!! Once he trusts someone, he happily climbs into their lap and settles in for a nap—a moment that has warmed more than one caretaker’s weekšŸ’™

He can be a bit nervous in unfamiliar environments or around new people, but with patience and kindness, he blossoms into an extraordinary canine companion!
