Longtime San Diego Radio Host Dies

San Diego radio host Jerry Cesak, best known as "Jer" from the popular "Jeff & Jer Showgram," has passed away at the age of 74.

Cesak, who went by the on air name "Jerry St. James" was one half of the popular "Jeff and Jer Showgram" in San Diego for 27 years, along with morning show partner Jeff Detrow.

He retired from broadcasting in 2015, and a year later, he and Detrow were inducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame.

Fans were quick to reply to the show’s announcement on social media of Cesak’s death.

“Most people go through life hoping they leave a mark on people’s lives by the time they pass away,” Juanita Burney wrote. “Jer left a huge mark on millions of people’s lives. He will be remembered by so many for his goofiness, kindness and his complete love of animals. May we all play his kindness forward."

Cesak was also a lifelong advocate for animal welfare and served on several boards, including the Rancho Coastal Humane Society and Humane Society of the United States. In recent years, he had battled health issues, including kidney failure, and was actively searching for a donor.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Pam Cesak, and his devoted animal family: Winston, Gigi, Savanah, and Isabella.
