Charlie Puth is hard at work crafting a brand new album, and pop sensation Taylor Swift reportedly helped influence the project.
The "Light Switch" singer recently spoke to People about his next album, explaining how it will be what fans "always expect" from him while also being a new evolution of his musical prowess. The album itself will be "challenging" as the also plans to to "the whole thing myself."
"You can expect what you always expect from me, which is chords and key changes and what I think are interesting kinds of rhythms in production sense," Puth said. "I always think about what I've lacked every time I start a new project and one thing that I'd like to enhance even more is the storytelling of things. And maybe that lies in the lyrics and making the lyrics a little bit more less A, B, C, D."
Puth added that he is drawing inspiration from another musician who utilizes powerful storytelling weaved throughout their lyrics to show off their vulnerable side.
"Taylor Swift kind of nudged me to do that as well," he continued. "And I think that's how she approaches her songwriting and that's how I'll approach this next album."
Swift previously spoke about her own challenge in trying something new with her songwriting while creating the 2020 album Folklore, drawing inspiration from the Irish history of storytelling.
