East Village's new affordable housing community officially opened in downtown San Diego on Thursday, February 10.
The 14-story Father Joe's Villages St. Teresa of Calcutta Villa opened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and celebration at 14th and Commerical streets.
According to County News Center, the $145 million project has 407 living units available for families, senior citizens, and individuals with disabilities who are experiencing homelessness. Additionally, eighty of the units are reserved for veterans.
The building has studio apartments, one and two-bedroom apartments, community rooms, a fitness room, play areas for children, dog runs, and community gardens. It will provide housing for over 500 people in need of a permanent place to call home.
St. Teresa of Calcutta Villa was funded through private and public dollars including in a County investment of $14 million No Place Like Home Program funds. CNC reports that it's the largest County investment in a single affordable housing project to date.
According to CNC, individuals and families looking to become residents of the building must qualify based on income. For more information visit Father Joe's Villages Get Help webpage.
