A recent article from Estately Real Estate Search listed some of the oddest town names.
According to the editors, "we placed our minds in the gutter and spent days looking over detailed maps and scrutinizing the names of all cities, towns, and unincorporated communities for anything that sounded even remotely sexual or perverse."
Here are all of the "lewd-sounding" town names in California:
- Bush
- Chubbuck
- Clam Beach
- Fort Dick
- Hooker
- Johnsondale
- Johnsons
- Old Fig Garden
- Peters
- Prunedale
- Raisin City
- Ragged Point
- Ragtown
- Rough and Ready
- Shafter
- Woody
Some states had town names with very straightforward innuendos like Blue Ball, Arkansas, Ballplay, Alabama, Cumming, Georgia, and Dickshooter Idaho to name a few.
Other town names required some research to get the joke. For example, many states have towns featuring the word "beaver," which was a 19th-century term used for female genitalia.
