Job opportunities are starting to pop up more and more as the country recovers from the economic impacts of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Ten San Diego County companies are looking to fill over 5,000 jobs during the pandemic, according to a report from the Employment Development Department obtained by KGTV.
The EDD lists these companies and their open positions:
- UC San Diego: 1,571
- Thermo Fischer Scientific: 559
- Scripps Health: 553
- Sharp Health Care: 511
- Anthem Blue Cross: 502
- Qualcomm: 459
- General Atomics: 424
- Intuit: 392
- Soliant: 346
- Allied Universal: 282
According to the EDD's data, San Diego is the city with the most job vacanices in the county at 45,469 job postings.
Carlsbad and Chula Vista follow with 3,794 and 2,868 job postings respectively.
Despite the promising number of open positions, the competition is still intense.
Elmerissa Sheets with Sharp Health Care told KGTV even though about half of the jobs advertised do not require in-depth medical training, more overqualifed have been applying throughout the pandmeic.
"Even last year when the pandemic first started, around summer we were seeing for our entry-level jobs, those that have college degress were applying because it was little tougher with just the economy," Sheets told KGTV.
