Meanwhile here in San Diego, Cowles Mountain trail reopened yesterday after being closed due to the pandemic. Because it was one of the most popular trails, it was one of the most difficult to open, however now it IS open! All parking lots in Mission Trails Regional Park reopened at full capacity Monday. Hikers are required to wear facial coverings and practice physical distancing, and groups will be limited to family units.

There’s going to be a heatwave today in San Diego! 90s inland, 80s by the beach. Temperatures are expected to near record highs in San Diego, Chula Vista, El Cajon, Oceanside, Carlsbad, Escondido, Poway, La Mesa, and Vista. A heat advisory will be in effect today from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. in coastal areas and today is set to be the hottest day of the year so far. Experts are advising people to drink plenty of fluids, stay out of the sun and check up on relatives and neighbors.Temperatures should be back to normal by Friday.

According to a new survey, 70 percent of couples right now say they are in the middle of a bathroom war with their significant other. According to the men surveyed, their biggest bathroom issue was how much hair their wife or girlfriend left in the shower drain. For women, their biggest gripe was the mess and smells their boyfriend or husband left behind in the toilet. So how bad are the bathroom wars? 20% of those surveyed said they had ended a relationship because of a person’s bathroom habits. Another thing happening during this quarantine is that people are finally meeting their neighbors. 29% of Californians say they met their neighbors for the first time thanks to this pandemic.

The piers and boardwalks reopened just in time. East and West Mission Bay Parks reopened Monday for park and water uses, plus its parking lots are now open at 100% capacity. Fiesta Island reopened Monday for pedestrians, dogs and cyclists. Day camps, campgrounds and RV parks also reopened Monday and outdoor recreation such as sport and charter are now allowed. And then on Friday, Balboa Park Central Mesa will reopen and all Balboa Park parking lots will reopen to 100% capacity.

People are talking about the weight they have gained during this quarantine. However, it turns out that our pets may have put on a few pounds too. According to research, 33 percent of our dogs have gained weight since March. The biggest reason? Humans! Because we are at home more, we are giving our dogs and cats more snacks and treats. Park closures and staying inside also curbed animal activity and exercise.

And speaking of this quarantine, one in five people say their driving skills got rusty during this time. And as a result they aren’t driving as good as they used to. The most common driving mistakes people have been making since they got back to driving are:

2. Struggling to parallel park.

3. Forgetting to signal.

4. Scraping their wheels against the curb.

In fact, according to the research, Americans are listening to music an extra 38 minutes a day. Virtual concerts are also helping. 64% said watching virtual performances has allowed them to feel more connected to others
