'Free Ride Day' in San Diego promotes public transit

San Diego holds 'Free Ride Day' to promote transit

Today, San Diego's Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) and North County Transit District are offering free rides today to encourage public transit use around San Diego. Free Ride Day was created to help boost ridership on public transportation.

Public transportation is more environmentally friendly when compared to single-passenger and ride-share vehicle trips. Ride-share companies like Lyft and Uber are also helping by providing discounted rides for riders to and from transit stops around San Diego.

Cities in Germany created days promoting free public transportation rides in order to help the country meet its European Union air pollution goals.
