2-year-old Girl Dies in Hot Car While Mom Sleeps in San Diego

A 21-month-old girl was in a hot car yesterday afternoon while her (unidentified) mother was taking a nap inside her Tierrasanta home. It's unclear whether the child went into the car herself or was forgotten there by her mother.

Temperatures in the area reached over 90 degrees that day. The military wife called 9-1-1 around 12:45 PM to report that her daughter had gone missing. She later called 9-1-1 again after she found her daughter, unresponsive, inside of her Nissan Altima that was parked on her driveway. When paramedics arrived, CPR was performed on the child. The child was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Approximately 38 children die in the United States every year from being left inside hot vehicles; to date, 24 children have died in 2019.
