Instagram and Facebook Has Some New Exciting Updates to Their Apps

Instagram experiments with hiding 'Like' counts for some users and launches redesigned camera

To start it off, Instagram has started the experiment of hiding "LIKE" counts for some users in Canada. In order for users to see their like counts, which will be hidden from the public, they'll have to click through the post itself. Adam Mosseri, head of product for Instagram, believes that the feature will help to take some pressure off of users. The new 'CREATE MODE' on their camera, which will roll out in the next few weeks, will make it much easier for users to create posts from scratch without the need to upload a photo or video.

Instagram wants users to stop focusing on how many 'LIKES' they can get and worry more about the actual photos and videos themselves. Can you imagine? Instagram, without the competitive vibe of measuring reaction?

Starting now, users are able to promote their favorite charities with interactive "donation" stickers on their Stories post. They'll also be able to tag products in their photos and allow users to buy the product directly from the app.

To help fight "bullying" that occurs on social media, Instagram is introducing a "nudge" tool that users can use to remind someone that their comment is hurtful or derogatory. Users will also have an "away mode" (similar to an out of office feature in e-mail) that will allow them to peacefully go through tough times.

The new 'manage interactions' feature will let users control how their followers can interact with them. For instance, they can block someone from DMing them, but allow them to still see their posts.

Facebook has a few changes in store as well.

They'll be losing their "blue" theme and going "all white."

Their messaging app will now feature end to end encryption (similar to WhatsApp... which Facebook also owns).

Possibly the most exciting new feature on Facebook is their Tinder-esque "Secret Crush." Users will be able to match up with any 9 "friends" that they're interested in. If someone is interested in you, you'll get a "you've been selected as a secret crush" notification. If you like them back, you'll get a "matched" message.
