Hospital Staff Line Up to Pay Respects to Organ Donor

Over 100 hospital staff at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center lined the halls to honor Mary Desin, a 58-year-old nurse who decided to donate her organs after dying of a brain aneurysm after 39 years of service.

Desin was being wheeled to the operating theater where hospital staff removed her organs.

Mary Desin worked at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center's Hamot hospital in Erie for 39 years and decided to continue saving lives even after her death by becoming an organ donor. She was also an animal lover according to her obituary. It also read: 'Mary was generous to a fault, always helping anyone that crossed her path. She loved that her job as a nurse allowed her to help anyone and everyone she could.'

The hospital turned on 3 lights at the top of their building to pay tribute to the nurse who is survived by her husband, two sons Matthew and James, daughter Laura.
