A border collie named Saul became a hero after he ran through the forest to help rescuers find his owner who had a broken hip and ribs after falling 70 feet in Tahoe National Forest.

Saul's 53-year-old owner was hiking through Tahoe National Forest last week when he slipped on the trail and fell 70 feet. After sustaining serious injuries, including a broken hip and ribs, the man called 9-1-1 on his cell phone but the call dropped before the emergency responders could get all of the details.

Responders were able to get ahold of the man's friend who told them where the hiker was camped, but when they got to the location no one was there. As searchers spread out to find the man, his dog Saul rushed up to them. One searcher explained that the dog "ran through the forest approximately 200 yards and in true ‘Lassie’ fashion flagged down two searchers and led them back to the subject which was covered in a camo tarp."

After Saul helped searchers find his owner, the man was carried a half mile to a landing zone where he was airlifted to a hospital. .
