A 200-square-foot shed in University Heights near Oregon Street got the attention of many San Diegans on Reddit, mainly because of the price tag.
Finding a place to rent in San Diego can get pretty challenging, especially because of the high rental prices and limited inventory. A shed/granny flat in University Heights that's asking for $1,100 a month, requires that the applicant make at least 2 1/2 times the amount of rent AND have a 650 credit score is raising a few eyebrows. I mean, it DOES have A/C, fridge, and a stove, but it doesn't allow pets, has no on-site laundry, and no dedicated parking spot.
Is it too expensive or is this a deal for San Diego renters?
One thing's for certain, I'm sure there are a lot of applicants in San Diego looking for anything (somewhat) affordable. We've got a limited inventory of rental properties and the ones that are available are getting rented out in record time. There are studios nearby that are only slightly bigger than this shed that are renting at over $1,200 a month.

- Kitchen has stove top, oven, refrigerator, and a sink! That's better than a lot of the other backyard sheds they list for rent. But someone would have to reeeeeeeally not want to live with other people to consider that arrangement.
- I'd like to see what the bath looks like. A urinal that drains into the neighbors yard?
- On the plus side, looking at the rest of the pictures it does have AC :)
- 200 sq ft hot damn. $5.50/sq. Ft. Is more than a place in La Jolla!
- Yeah. I'm all about charging market value but this seems a tad.. over valued to say at the least
- Ridiculous. I love SD, lived here for over 30 years but I've had enough. We're moving out of state next week, this place is killing our bank accounts. Seems like the past 5 years or so have been especially bad.
- This is the kind of thing I used to tell myself : “when it gets that bad, I’m moving away.” But I am still here.
