Here’s Why Metallic Balloons Are Being Outlawed In California

Metallic balloons will soon be illegal in California, under new state laws going into effect over the next few years.

KTLA says Metallic balloons, like foil or mylar, will be phased out by 2028, and will be illegal by 2031.

They were outlawed in recent California legislation that was passed in September.

The balloons pose a risk for causing wildfires or power outages if they come into contact with power lines and utilities have advocated for their removal from stores in California.

Some cities in California have already banned the balloons due to public safety risks, but this is a statewide rule.

The new law doesn’t get rid of all metallic balloons, just those that conduct electricity.
