Tom Cruise was spotted in San Diego today riding a motorcycle down a landing strip on what appears to be Naval Air Station North Island on Coronado

According to Tom's Twitter post, and TMZ, it looks like production has begun on the sequel to Top Gun (1986). Cruise will once again play Pete "Maverick" Mitchell in the film titled, "Tom Gun: Maverick."

Tom Cruise spoke to Access Hollywood in 2017 and mentioned that the sequel would have “the same tone from the first one …” and “stylistically it’s going to be the same.”

Composer Harold Faltermeyer will also return to do the score for the sequel. Some scenes from the sequel will be filmed at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island according to Whidbey News Times

Several San Diego locations were used in the first Top Gun movie include The Kansas City Barbeque located on 600 Harbor Drive in Downtown San Diego, which has since been rebuilt following a fire in 2008. The house that belonged to "Charlie" (Pete's girlfriend in the movie) is still in Oceanside and has been restored by fans over the years.

“Top Gun: Maverick” is scheduled to hit theaters on July 12, 2019.
