Stray Dog Rescued From Gorilla Habitat At San Diego Zoo Safari Park VIDEO

A stray dog that had made its way into the San Diego Zoo Sarari Park was rescued on Sunday after it got stuck in the park's gorilla habitat.

The park was able to move the gorillas to another part of the habitat, and Humane Society officers were able to safely leash the dog and remove him from the enclosure without injury.

Nina Thompson, a spokesperson from the Human Society said that the dog is a male shepherd that is not micro-chipped. The dog is being called “Mighty Joe Young” by the Humane Society, and is currently being help at their facility while they try to locate his owner. Park staff members said that a couple of domesticated dogs somehow got into the park and were running loose before being detected in the gorilla habitat.

The following statement was issued by the San Diego Zoo Safari Park

This afternoon, June 12, 2022, a couple of domestic dogs were loose in the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. One of the dogs jumped into the gorilla habitat around 4 p.m. Wildlife care specialists successfully recalled the two gorillas out of the habitat so the dog could be removed. Recall training is a part of the regular safety procedures at the Park. The dogs were successfully removed and no Safari Park animals, staff or guests were harmed.
