SDSU, Mountain West Will Play 8-Game Season Starting October 24

Fresno State v San Diego State

The NCAA Mountain West Conference is moving forward with an 8-game season for 2020 that begins on October 24. The schedule will be released soon, but teams have already begun preseason practice and a workout regime of 20-hours per week to prepare for game play.

Despite the conference's approval, game play and fan attendance is still subject to approval from state and local public health officials.

In response to COVID-19 concerns, which caused the conference to postpone the season on August 10, Mountain West (MW) is reportedly finalizing an agreement to conduct daily rapid antigen testing, which medical experts say can limit outbreaks and ease the contact tracing process. Big Ten and Pac-12 campuses plan to implement daily antigen testing as well.

San Diego State University (SDSU) Head Football Coach Brady Hoke, is excited to get back to football, saying "Our guys have been working hard and it will be great to get back out on the field. We can't wait to compete. I don't have any doubt that the priority has always been the health and well-being of our student athletes with the safety protocols we have here at San Diego State. I know the conference and all the (MW) institutions have been following the advice of the medical and athletic training staffs, and we're going to go about this as safely as we can."

The Mountain West championship game is scheduled for December 19.
