For the first time, a study shows that California's wildfires are contributing to extreme weather conditions in the midwest.
According to the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory with the U.S. Department of Energy, high levels of heat created by fires can shift air pressure in the atmosphere, which creates strong winds that flow east.
The study also shows wildfires can increase the size of hail, creating larger hailstones with more cooled water collected in the atmosphere.
Researchers says the findings present a warning to central states already seeing hardships from the climate crisis.
