The Coronado School Board voted unanimously yesterday to appeal the CIF Ruling!

The CIF revoked Coronado’s championship title after the whole tortilla throwing incident. They say the students shouldn’t have to suffer because of the actions done by adults who were responsible for the incident. The statement says, ““Let’s be clear: Those responsible were adults. Adults led students astray. Adults ultimately caused this pain, and it is adults who should face the consequences.”

The tortilla throwing happened after a June 19 division regional championship game that Coronado won 60-57 in overtime. Following the game, there was an altercation between coaches and other members of the two teams, and two Coronado students threw tortillas toward the Orange Glen team, which is mostly Latino. An adult Coronado community member had brought the tortillas and gave them to students. Last week the statewide CIF revoked the division regional championship title from Coronado High and placed the school on probation until s.

The CIF also banned the Coronado boys basketball team from holding postseason contests until 2023. The CIF also banned all athletic teams at Coronado High from holding postseason contests until all Coronado High administrators, athletic directors, coaches and student-athletes complete a sportsmanship workshop — which includes racial sensitivity training — and until all Coronado High administrators and athletic directors complete game management training.

You can sign the petition over at HeinzHotDogPact.com. The question is, will hot dog makers and bun makers agree on whether their packages will have 8 or 10.
