Khyler Edman, 15, died while protecting his 5-year-old sister during a home invasion in Port Charlotte, Florida
The Charlotte County Sheriff's Department received reports from locals that there was an injured man with several stab wounds running around the neighborhood around 4 PM. The injured suspect, Ryan Clayton Cole, was eventually caught by police after another man caught him inside of his property. A short time later, authorities found evidence of forced entry through the door of another nearby home. When they got inside, they found Khyler's body and his sister nearby. No details about how Khyler died were revealed but authorities said it was a violent encounter.
Ryan Cole is currently charged with burglary of an occupied dwelling and petit theft. Authorities are still investigating and additional charges may still be added in the future.

A GoFundMe page was created by the Edman family to help cover Khyler's funeral expenses. A statement on the page reads, 'Please help my family at this time give Khyler a proper burial he deserves, he was only 15 years old and lost his life due to a senseless act of a stranger. My son had a long life ahead of him, that was taken too soon.'
As of the time of this article, $44,589 had been raised of the $25,000 goal.
