Girlfriend who encouraged boyfriend to commit suicide dismissed from wrongful death lawsuit
Michelle Carter was dismissed in a $4.2 million lawsuit for involuntary manslaughter for encouraging via text messages her then-boyfriend, Conrad H. Roy III to commit suicide.
Roy committed suicide by inhaling carbon monoxide in his pickup truck in Fairhaven, Massachusetts back in 2014. Carter, aged 17 at the time, was on the phone with Roy telling him to "get back in the truck" to commit suicide.
In 2017, Carter was convicted of involuntary manslaughter by the Bristol County Juvenile Court and was sentenced to 15 months in prison with 5 years probation. Carter, now 22 years old, was recently dismissed "with prejudice and without costs." This means that the case can NOT be brought back to court in the future.
