The San Diego County Treasurer-Tax Collector's Office has hundreds of thousands to give back in county refunds, reports NBC7.

The tax collector's office announced on Tuesday, October 19, it is doing all it can to return $713,585 to its rightful owners.

"With many people cash-strapped, it's essential to return this money to the citizens of San Diego," said Treasurer-Tax Collector Dan McAllister. "The average refund is $386, and that can go a long way for those who are the rightful owners and who need it."

There are 1,848 refunds available according to the tax collector's office. Refund amounts range anywhere from $10 to $36,699, which is owed to Fidelity National Title Co. according to NBC7.

If you are owed money, you have until December 17 to file a refund claim. Refunds that go unclaimed are rolled into the county's general fund.

You can find instructions on the process on the county's unclaimed money page. You can also call 1-877-829-4732 for more information.

"We want all of this money returned to San Diegans, so tell your friends and family to go to sdttc.com to check the unclaimed money list," said McAllister.
