Halsey Shot With Rubber Pellets, Shrapnel During George Floyd Protest

Halsey is not afraid to speak freely when it comes to politics, and on Saturday (May 30) she took action and not only attended a demonstration in Los Angeles protesting George Floyd's murder at the hands of Minneapolis police offers, but was also on the front lines.

The pop star documented the assembly both on Twitter and her Instagram story, and claimed law enforcement shot rubber bullets at and gassed peaceful demonstrators.

"they opened fire of rubber bullets and tear gas multiple times on us. citizens who were not provoking them," she wrote in a series of Instagram story posts. "most of us were simply begging them to have empathy. to reconsider. to consider humanity and our nations [sic] history and future."

"They opened fire multiple times. I was hit twice. Once by pellets and once by shrapnel. We were gassed repeatedly for hours," she continued. "the frontline did not relent. i will be returning."

She also posted photos of armed cops on Twitter and shared her definition of patriotism.

"A true patriot is someone who will rebel against the government if it becomes necessary, to protect the greater good of their fellow citizens," she tweeted. "We are patriots. If you are not, you are a coward. THIS is what democracy looks like."
