It's no secret that Iggy Azalea has had a hard time in the spotlight since her 2014 breakthrough hit, "Fancy," took the world by storm. Thankfully, the rapper has Demi Lovato as an ally as she makes her way through this thing called fame. In a new interview with Billboard, the Aussie rapper confessed that Lovato was the one that inspired her to seek treatment after she was approached by her new management team Philymack — the same company that manages Lovato — over her anger-filled troubles.
"[My management team was] like, 'We think you're really talented and you can go to the studio and make hits all day, but we don't know if, you know, someone says something about you and you have a reaction it could ruin a branding deal. We need you to go and speak to these people and make sure that you're mentally prepared to come out with new music,'" the 27-year-old star recounted of their concerns about her anger issues and general mental health. "I didn't want to go there — I didn't like the idea of being sent away somewhere. I was pissed."
After sitting on the idea and considering Lovato's previous need for treatment, Azalea agreed to head to Arizona for a two-week mental retreat, which included intensive therapy. "I've never really sat down and had an honest conversation with professional people," she explained. "It was good to say something to somebody who could give me the tools and information on how to make my life manageable when I'm feeling those things. So it was really useful — I'm glad that I went."
Besides Kesha and Quavo, who appears on her comeback single, "Savior," Azalea said that Lovato was the only artist who was there for her personally to help her through her tumultuous period. "If I'm being honest, the only people who have been there for me are Quavo, Kesha, and Demi," she admitted. "And everyone else has pretty much acted like I don't exist."
