It's no secret that Demi Lovato is open to dating both men and women, as seen in her YouTube documentary, Simply Complicated, which put some of her deep demons at the forefront for Lovatics to see. Now, the 25-year-old pop star had opened up about her "fluid" dating life in the April issue of InStyle, where she revealed that gender doesn't mean much to her when it comes down to a romantic connection.
"I'm very fluid, and I think love is love," she told the magazine. "You can find it in any gender. I like the freedom of being able to flirt with whoever I want." Lovato's continued thoughts on fluidity come after she was spotted holding hands with Los Angeles-based DJ Lauren "KITTENS" Abedini back in September during an outing to Disneyland. More recently, she was spotted having lunch with Wilmer Valderrama in late February. The pair called it quits after six years of romance in 2016.
Elsewhere in the cover story, Lovato, who is currently on the road with her "Tell Me You Love Me World Tour," spoke about how her candid voice has pigeonholed her into a role of a bad girl, something she doesn't believe she actually ever was. "I think I was just open about my issues and was being authentic to who I was. The way people perceived me was the way they wanted to perceive me," she explained.
"You have to speak out about stuff," she continued. "You have to use your voice for good. That's what I think a lot of people are starting to do. I didn't have anybody who was doing that when I was younger. I grew up in the era of really, really skinny celebrities. That was the look. And it was cool to be seen partying. Drugs were glamorized, and when I was 12 or 13, nobody [I looked up to] was talking about mental illness. Nobody was talking about eating disorders. Nobody was talking about cutting. I wanted somebody for my little sister to look up to. I took on that role because I knew it was important."
