A sixth women has come forward to accuse Russell Simmons of sexual assault. Now, his ex-wife, Kimora Lee Simmons, is speaking out about these claims.
According to TIME, Jennifer Jarosik filed a lawsuit in federal court against the public hip hop/entertainment figure on Wednesday (Jan. 24). She claims that Russell invited her to his home in August 2016 to discuss a documentary that she had in the works. The Def Jam co-founder wanted to produce it.
The suit continues that Russell tried having sex with Jarosik at this meeting. When she refused, he allegedly threw her on a bed and raped her. There was even a point, the plaintiff says, where Russell knocked her onto the ground. Now, Jarosik is seeking $5 million in damages. Since this suit was filed, Russell has denied these allegations. Five women have previously accused the mogul of similar sexual assault encounters, as well.
So, Kimora decided to react to these claims on social media on Thursday (Jan. 25) night. In a note, the fashion designer stated: "I add my voice to the chorus of of those speaking out against harassment and violence and all forms. I have known Russell for over 25 years... I have known him to be a caring and supporting father and someone who has worked tirelessly to uplift disenfranchised communities."
She continued: "This is a pivotal moment in which men are being held accountable for their abuses of power and denigrating behavior towards women in all spheres. As a mother of two daughters, I believe that no one should ever be shamed or portrayed as an unreliable witness to their own experiences for speaking up. Nor should anyone be condemned legally without due process and a fair trial."
