Two teenagers were rescued by a floatation device dropped in by a drone called the Little Ripper
This is the first water rescue by drone in the world! It happened today when 2 boys were caught in the current off of East Australia.
The drone named the Little Ripper, carried an inflatable pod over to the boys which allowed them to make their way back to shore in minutes. Total rescue time was around 70 seconds! Not bad! Usually it would take a human lifeguard a few minutes to accomplish.
The two boys were about 2,500 feet from the shore before they were spotted by a person on the beach who then notified lifeguard supervisor Jai Sheridan, a lifeguard who happened to be flying the drone as part of an exercise.
