The Schear family from Huntington Beach, California were kicked off an overbooked Delta flight
Delta Airlines had an overbooked flight from Hawaii to LAX and wanted Brian Schear to give up his 2-year-old son's seat, that he paid for, and carry him on his lap for the remainder of the flight. He refused, but the staff member said, "You have to give up the seat or you're going to jail, your wife is going to jail and they'll take your kids from you."
As it turned out, Brian's 18-year-old son took another flight home and his ticket was given to his younger brother.
Eventually, the family had to deplane and spend over $2000 to book another flight home.
