Rated R

Review: When a lawyer unintentionally gets involved with people in the drug business, his whole life spirals downward. This film has a star-studded cast, which includes Michael Fassbender, Brad Pitt, Javier Bardem, Penélope Cruz, Cameron Diaz and more. However, the rest of the movie was really weak. Kind of a disappointment with the plot in comparison to the amazing actors involved. It was really confusing at the beginning of the movie because nothing is explained, so you don’t really get to know the characters’ backgrounds and you feel like you were thrown into the ring unprepared.  Once you get the story and are able to follow it, the movie is just boring and very anticlimactic. In addition to the confusion, there are very uncomfortable scenes that make you want to cringe like I did, such as the gory killings and sex scenes (It must’ve been awkward for Javier Bardem to see his real-life wife, Penelope Cruz, getting it on with Fassbender in the movie). One thing I enjoyed about The Counselor was seeing how ridiculously tan Javier was.  It looks like he and Tan Mom would be a match made in heaven!

I give The Counselor one thumb down for its failed attempt to grab audience’s attentions.
