The average price of self-serve regular gasoline continues to rise in San Diego County.

According to FOX5, on Tuesday, October 26, prices rose for the 18th consecutive day and the 23rd time in 24 days.

As of Tuesday, the price increased nine-tenths of a cent to $4.513, which is the highest amount since October 19, 2012.

The AAA and Oil Price Information Service reports that the average price of gas has risen 15.8 cents over the past 24 days. The current price is 6.1 cents more than it was one week ago, 16.4 cents more than one month ago, and $1.346 more than a year ago.

According to FOX5, rising gas prices are being caused by high crude oil prices. The crude oil price has increased 134.03% since October 30, 2020, due to a higher demand after COVID-19 restrictions were lifted.

One California gas station made national headlines when their price for premium gas hit a whopping $8.50.

“With the U.S. economy slowly recovering from the depths of the pandemic, demand for gas is robust, but the supply is tight,” said Andrew Gross, an AAA national public relations manager.
