After the quiet release of his dancehall-inspired "Nuh Ready Nuh Ready" featuring PARTYNEXTDOOR, Calvin Harris has set his sights on another collab and this time the Scottish DJ has teamed up with Dua Lipa for a new track called "One Kiss," which was announced simultaneously on both of the stars' social media accounts on Monday afternoon (April 2).
"One Kiss" marks Calvin's second single of the 2018 year and should step away from the breezy funk wave sounds of his 2017 releases. "In 2018 movin on from Funk Wav sound thank u for joining me on my musical journey haha," Calvin tweeted earlier this year. In fact, it sounds like the cut might lean more toward his trademark electronic sweet spot instead of the hip-hop-charged singles of last year. On Tuesday, Harris shared an excerpt of a text message exchange with the 22-year-old pop star and there was a mention of "the drop," so an EDM-charged single sounds promises. "So happy you like," the DJ replied.
Regardless of success, "One Kiss" will mark yet another fitting step for the rising star after her hit, "New Rules," broke the Top 10 tier in the United States and her most recent single, "IDGAF," makes a slow and steady rise. Lipa is also steadily working on her sophomore LP, which she recently described as a "very much dance crying" collection to British GQ. "It is a pop album that you’re going to be able to dance to, but a lot of the songs are sad. They're about heartbreak and they're about going through some emotional manipulation. It kind of sucks that that's the thing that triggers my creativity, but happy things don't seem to do it for me," she explained.
