Nicki Minaj has been absent from the spotlight in 2018 as she continues to work on her new album, but the rap titan made a surprise appearance on Thursday (March 29) when she appeared in a new TV commercial.
In a new 90-second spot, Mercedes-Benz puts the Harajuku Barbie right in front of the camera when a driver asks her vehicle dashboard to play some hip-hop. Cue the spontaneous arrival of Ms. Minaj in the passenger heat. When the driver makes a sharp turn, the narrator admits the vehicle's accessibilities are enough to even make an impression on the MC. "Yikes, you did that!" Minaj tells the driver.
Earlier this year, Minaj made a stir for taking a break from social media. Without updates via her platforms or public appearances, it has left the rapper entirely disconnected from her fans and, boy, have they noticed. Thankfully, Minaj did (slightly) appease their appetites when she stepped out for Beyoncé and JAY-Z's Oscars afterparty at the Chateau Marmont in L.A. In the meantime, we'll just have to be patient as the rapper works hard on the follow-up to 2014's The Pinkprint. In mid-February, TMZ reported that she has "been working night and day in the studio with major producers and rappers like Lil Wayne, Mack Maine and other Young Money acts ... and she's going to continue to leave social media alone until the album's complete."
"Our sources say some of the tracks are finished, and every song is going to be a hit," TMZ added. "We're told it's expected to be released later this year ... and it's expected to be fire."
